How To Treat A Shoulder Hopper?

Reader nic sent in this picture. It was actually an animated GIF sequence that I cannot get to work, but the longboarder came off the bottom and basically plowed the hopper off the wave. I have done the same many times to trolls on the shoulder, but it's not for the faint of heart.

Thanks to nic for teaching me how to get the animation working!

Below is the reward for such aggressive tactics.

I'm glad the shoulder hopper was slayed. I'm also glad the longboarder broke his surfboard.

that's what happens when you put a stomp pad and aleash on a LB

What do you 2 know - word is you're both spongers...

The guy on the chip is a total kook...

A nice bottom turn like that doesn't deserve a broken board...

no comment on the shoulder-hopper, but why the hell would you ride a longboard on a wave like that? clearly the wrong tool for the job

Cause styling is better than chop-hopping any day!
It worked for Phil Edwards, Miki Dora, The Duke, Greg Noll, and on and on and on.
Plus, it takes more talent as a surfer to pull it off.
Honor your roots.

lol. Phil Edwards and Miki Dora switched to modern equipment as it was invented. Noll got too fat and quit surfing maybe he asked O.T. how. Duke was and OLD man when shortboards were invented. Anonymous is the DD today, kook!

Anon - I know plenty.
I know spongers who rip over you.
I do honor my roots. That's why when I ride a LB, there is no leash or stomp pad. There's also only one fin. That's just personal preference though.
And the guy on the chip at least managed to not fall back and spear the lb'er, but he's still a donkey for shoulder hopping in the first place.
The clip is awesome. Very acrobatic!

the longboard vs shortboard debate is lame. ride what you got.

I agree with thebiscuitshow...who gives a crap what you ride as long as you have fun and are respectful of others. Also, there's a wide variety of longboards--they aren't all singlefin noseriders (which, incidentally are really fun in small waves [and challenging in medium-to-large waves] and are not easy to ride skillfully/stylishly)--there are also progressive longboards, including gunny shapes. A rounded pintail longboard with tapered rails and smooth rocker is a kickass board in overhead down-the-line waves (better than a lot of shortboards in fact). Also, quit harping on the leash and stomp-pad thing alan_m. I respect people who surf without a leash (not going to respond to the stomp-pad thing--who cares?) but I've had several close calls as big ass longboards come flying at me in the whitewhater as I'm paddling out and some "soul surfer" sheepishly apologizes after almost killing me or someone else. Yeah, even good surfers fall and you have a responsibility to keep your equipment under control in crowded lineups.
