It wasn't until I got out of the water on the morning of 9/11 that I had learned of the tragic events in NYC that morning. I decided to not go into work that day, spend some time with my family, and even ventured back into the lineup later that morning. It was the most quiet session of my life. Stunned silence in the lineup, with others like myself just trying to wash away the shock and try to figure out what happened.A pictorial journey into the hilarity that is surfing in Southern California – with a focus on poor etiquette, bad photography, body contortions, overcrowding, and bad surfing. Stop by daily to see if you've been caught doing your best stinkbug power-squat...and please, don't be afraid to be my muse!

Cocoa Beach Surf Contest
According to the description of this video, these boys were warming up between heats at a contest in Cocoa Beach. I'm amazed that Kelly Slater actually survived that place.
Bonus points for the bikini girls in the first part of the video.

Hokie Pokie

You put both legs in,
You put both legs out.
You put both legs in,
and you shake them all about.
You do the Hokie Pokie
and you turn yourself around,
That's what it's all about!

What To Do?
What should you do when the Pacific becomes a lake?
I love the high-speed, high fives! LOL
Truth be told, I did something similar once in Australia. After trekking 50K up the beach in a Ute north of Noosa only to find no ridable surf, I spent an hour doing some barefoot sand skiing behind the truck. Fun, but one of the dumbest things that I've ever done in my life!

Frolicking Friday - Video
Apparently this bachelor party was spongeworthy! There are almost as many claims on this short vid as there were at the Chilean WCT event last month! LOL
Thanks to reader diro for the submission!

Listening For Trains...
When I was young, while walking to lowers along the train tracks we'd always stop and drop our ear to the tracks to see if we could hear a train coming before crossing the trestle. Well, this person is probably just listening for oncoming trains, I reckon.Pic sent in by reader alan m. Sorry for the small photo.

Only in LA!

This guy's too sexy for his surfboard. Reader Ria sent this one in and it made me throw up in my mouth, a little bit. Pic by Randy Wright of Swellmagnet.com, who needs to get his head checked out.

Cardiffman!
So the city of Encinitas commissioned this work of "art", recently unveiled, that is rubbing the surf community the wrong way. I'm not sure, but I think it officially designates Cardiff as the donkey capital of the world.

Like it or not, it's been great fodder for the photoshop artists.
"So you think you can dance?"

Nap Time
Sent in from reader Alan M., this pic shows that surfing (in a river no less) is soooo easy that you can even take a nap while doing it. I think the pic is from a marketing piece from one of those companies that produce their products overseas. Take heed folks, this is what you get when you let your surfboards be made by people who don't surf! Please buy American-made surfboards!Wednesday, July 18, 2007

Surfing Paris

I'm not sure what it says about our sport, but it sure looks like there is limited surf in Paris. This pic was hoisted off the aptly named perezhilton.com and sent in by reader Ria.
