Remember

It wasn't until I got out of the water on the morning of 9/11 that I had learned of the tragic events in NYC that morning. I decided to not go into work that day, spend some time with my family, and even ventured back into the lineup later that morning. It was the most quiet session of my life. Stunned silence in the lineup, with others like myself just trying to wash away the shock and try to figure out what happened.

Cocoa Beach Surf Contest

According to the description of this video, these boys were warming up between heats at a contest in Cocoa Beach. I'm amazed that Kelly Slater actually survived that place.

Truth be told, I did something similar once in Australia. After trekking 50K up the beach in a Ute north of Noosa only to find no ridable surf, I spent an hour doing some barefoot sand skiing behind the truck. Fun, but one of the dumbest things that I've ever done in my life!
